Webometric Analyst has replaced LexiURL Searcher - it can still run link searches but instead of counting hyperlinks, it counts either URL citation links or title mention links - see the web site for more information.Mike Thelwallhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11997243815649603823noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5762907.post-67704868404676365912008-01-31T23:09:00.001+00:002008-01-31T23:12:15.193+00:00LexiURL Searcher is designed to submit large numbers of queries to Live Search, Yahoo! or (possibly) Google automatically via their permitted interfaces. This helps Webometric investigations by removing a significant part of the manual labour when retrieving large numbers of results. It contains a huge amount of data and ranks universities' web presences using categories of different documents published. It has already caused a stir outside of Webometrics, so will generate good publicity for the research area.Mike Thelwallhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11997243815649603823noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5762907.post-1129906645376044312005-10-21T15:53:00.000+01:002005-10-21T15:57:25.376+01:00A very interesting new research topic is Wikimetrics. This is an interesting example of a very simple Webometrics application! Monthly searches in Google and Yahoo! are used to estimate the relative popularity of programming languages. I found out that the following search string works with AltaVista,
AlltheWeb, Yahoo Search and Lycos (Inktomi) in addition to HotBot (Inktomi):
'linkdomain:wu-wien.ac.at NOT domain:wu-wien.ac.at'

Here is his very valuable information...
Looks like HotBot (http://www.hotbot.com) gives inlink counts for whole
sites for search strings like:
linkdomain:www.db.dk and domain:uk
(with your home page as no 4 on the result list :-)
Somewhat confusingly, HotBot highlights Mike Thelwallhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11997243815649603823noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5762907.post-1086342601327813782004-06-04T10:50:00.000+01:002004-06-04T10:50:01.326+01:00Xumei Li See the Webometrician to have written a 'Fast Breaking' paper!Mike Thelwallhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11997243815649603823noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5762907.post-1086342519578220502004-06-04T10:48:00.000+01:002004-06-04T10:48:39.576+01:00Webometrie - Wikipedia A German-language web encyclopedia. Link counting in AltaVista and AllTheWeb no longer work, since the buyout of both by Yahoo!.
Links between web sites can be counted in google, e.g.
+"www.goldsmiths.ac.uk/departments/computing/" -site:goldsmiths.ac.uk
But this only works for URLs that appear in the *text* of the page.
Does anyone have any better ideas for link counting to whole Mike Thelwallhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11997243815649603823noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5762907.post-1066221763670625932003-10-15T13:42:00.000+01:002003-10-15T13:42:43.420+01:00Most cited LIS authors 2002-2002 See the "www-metricians" in Olle Persson's map.Mike Thelwallhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11997243815649603823noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5762907.post-1065004814285728542003-10-01T11:40:00.000+01:002003-10-01T11:40:13.840+01:00JCMC Vol 8 Issue 4: Internet Networks: The Form and the Feel: "Internet Networks: The Form and the Feel" Journal of Computer Mediated Communication special issue.Mike Thelwallhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11997243815649603823noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5762907.post-1062598946280454592003-09-03T15:22:00.000+01:002003-09-03T15:22:26.310+01:00WISER - Web Indicators for Science, Technology & Innovation ResearchMike Thelwallhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11997243815649603823noreply@blogger.com
